This poem titled 9589 is an inadequate attempt to express the emotions on encountering the enchanting, breathtaking and exquisite views of the blue waters of the Mediterranean with the dramatic backdrop of Africa, The Atlas Mountains and Gibraltar seen from the terraces of apartment 9589 in the Kempinski Hotel on the Costa Del Sol.
Home from Home
Dedicated to all my family; close friends; the Kempinski personnel and my many many friends amongst them, in particular Pascal, always so gracious and special; my ‘older brother’ Darek; the Young Professor; Joy and Chris; all my children and the sisters Charlotte and Shelly who are ever-present in the mulled, windmilled memories of my mind.
Dazzling sapphire skies, laced with rainbow shades
Beautifully designed by nature’s brand
Each vivid paint stroke delicately fades
As if canvassed on ghostly shifting sand
Views to venerate, senses to savour
All refreshed by an unseen guiding hand
Working, mending without fear or favour
To bring a magic to sky, sea and land
Spears of scarlet, pierce heavens of bright blue
Seeping colours of a beauteous hue
A rainbow pales high in a storm filled sky
Suddenly a new panoramic view
Art from nature’s workshop never at rest
Earth’s grandeur at its ethereal best
Framed by enchanting mist-strewn Afrikaa
Stirring passions for fabled Shang-ri-la
The swirling mist wanes imperceptibly
Unveiling nature’s own epiphany
Slow from out the pink haze and cyan sea
Snow-capped mountains rise majestically
Gibraltar stands stark, proud, for all to see
Like a monolithic Marie Celeste
To be lost again to mythical quest
A grand sunset heralds the days demise
Black clouds, fringed in crimson, drape turquoise skies
Stygian night reigns supreme, cloaking all light
This regime, in natures time, slowly dies
In sleep, these visions, I’ll visualise
Reaped from the mystic prism of my mind
Where awesome endless treasures are enshrined
What joy! Still keen for tomorrow’s sunrise
Such dreams are often veiled in mystery
Yet these scenes are sealed in my memory
Refreshing senses continuously
Not just ‘til my mind is cramped and confined
Nor just ‘til an unknown world beckons me
Or ‘til my spirit roams midst stars once more
To be thrilled for all our eternities
